The walk starts at a large lay-by 0.75 miles east of Holme Chapel on the A646. The route initially heads over to Cant Clough Reservoir and on to Hare Stones Hill. Next is a long steady climb to the highest point at 479m – Hoof Stones Height. From there the objectives are in turn Noah Dale, the Hawk Stones and the secluded hamlet of Shone before the last climb of the day up to Black Scout and the ridge of Cartridge Pasture. Finally it is downhill all the way back to the cars. |

An outline of the route from Turton & Entwistle car park is as follows: Burton Hill – Witton Weavers Way – Edge Fold – Bolton Barn Farm – Tom Barn – Top of Meadow Farm – Whittlestone Head – Cote Farm – Bank Wood – Edge Fold – Strawbury Duck.

The Glazebrook Trail, which is followed for the first 41/2 miles from Pennington Flash, is on flat terrain. The walk leaves the Trail at the delightful Lightoaks Hall at Glazebury. It follows a route through woodland and pastures. The return to Pennington is through Culcheth.

The walk starts near the public house in Wincle and heads north, to the west of the River Dane, to pass through Wildboarclough before climbing to the summit of Shutlingsloe. The route to the summit is retraced and the walk then heads easterly through Cut-thorn. From Cut-thorn it is south towards Lud’s Church and on to Danebridge. After Danebridge it is only a short distance back to the start at Wincle. The walk is on good paths, country lanes and farm tracks. There are some steep ascents. |

The walk starts in Parbold village. The starting point is alongside the canal, just off the A5209 road, on the road into the village. The route is through the fields north-east of Parbold to the old quarry at Hunter’s Hill and on towards Harrock Hill and the hamlet of High Moor. It then heads south to cross the A5209 and descend Fairy Glen before turning west to return to Parbold.
