Starting out in damp conditions, Barbara Shelton led a group of thirteen walkers on a 10‑mile circular walk taking in countryside to the east of Earby on lanes and paths to Lothersdale, and a section of the Pennine Way and moorland to Pinhaw Beacon at 388 metres.
The group first stopped at Glen Cottage in Earby, the former home of Katharine Glasier, an English socialist, campaigner, politician, journalist and writer. She is known for being a founding member of the Independent Labour Party, formed in 1893. She moved to Earby in 1922 and remained there until her death in 1950.
The morning section then followed a network of field paths and farm tracks to Lothersdale, where we stopped at the Lothersdale war memorial before continuing on to Pinhaw Beacon, where we stopped for lunch, with great views of the hills of Pendle, Whernside, Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Buckden Pike all visible
After lunch, in warm sunshine, we descended back via Booth Bridge and a disused railway line back to the start. After the walk, some of the group went to the Old Stone Trough at Kelbrook for drinks.

Gradually, after a shower the weather began to improve as we made the steady climb up to Wainman’s Pinnacle, where we stopped for lunch and enjoyed the sunny conditions and views.
By the afternoon, the weather had brightened considerably and in warm sunshine, we continued along the escarpment to Lund’s Tower before descending back towards Sutton‑in‑Craven. The walk finished at The Black Bull pub, where the group rounded off the day with well‑earned drinks.
