Bury Ramblers

Walking for pleasure

Walk Leaders Required.

If you're a Ramblers member and think you would like to lead a walk, you can now access two Ramblers walk leadership online training modules, click here, for you to complete. These together with the Walk Leader Handbook will give you the skills required to lead a walk. You will first need to be registered as a volunteer to complete the online courses. This can be done by the group chair, walks programme coordinator or secretary.

Walk Leaders can also access resources on the Ramblers Walk Leadership page to update their skills and knowledge and help plan walks.

To help with planning a walk, use the application on Plot your own walking route page, which can be downloaded as a gpx file for use on a walking app such as Garmin or a smartphone.

In the future, there will be no advertised meet-up point for car sharing. Only the walk start point and start time will be published. However, either the Facebook page or walk leaders could be used to assist those looking for lifts to be put in contact with those offering lifts.

When you submit a walk you will be offered a limited number of dates to choose from. If the date you want is not available it means somebody else has submitted a walk for that date. If no other date is acceptable, contact the walk organiser to add your walk to the programme. It is intended to run a rolling walks programme rather than submit a walk several months in advance. If you don't wish to submit walks now, wait until a block of dates becomes available that is more convenient for you.

In order to lead a walk, and to be covered by Ramblers insurance, you should carry out a Risk Assessment and a Recce before the walk date.
