On a dry but cold and icy winter's day Malcolm Chester led a group of 15 walkers on a 10.5 mile circular walk around the Bolton area, mainly on footpaths and trails, with some urban walking included. Starting from Curley's Dining Rooms at Wallsuches near Horwich the route descended on footpaths and trails to Lostock Hall (now demolished) and on to Hollywood House (now a private hospital). From here the route continued through Hollinhurst Plantation to Doffcocker Lodge for the lunch break. After lunch the walk continued via Barrow Bridge, Walker Fold and Burnt Edge back to the start where some of the group went to the Jolly Crofter's pub for drinks.
